CORK HARVEST PROCESS

Cork is safely harvested from the bark of standing “cork oak” trees, making cork products a cruelty-free and eco-friendly choice. The main cork production and harvest takes place in Portugal. The first stripping takes place when the cork oak is 25 years old, and the trunk has reached a diameter of 70 centimeters. It is done by skilled workers in a manual way making sure that no harm is done to an oak. Subsequent stripping takes place with an interval of at least nine years, allowing the cork oak trees ample time to rejuvenate. The average lifespan of a cork tree is over 200 years.
